Catching up.........

Well, it's safe to say this blog has been in the making for five years.  I should have started this before Owen was even born.  Not only is Owen now almost five years old, but we have three year old James as well, so I'm well and truly behind.  (Next blog will be five years worth of cute Owen things and three years worth of cute James things, and then we'll be on track).

The reason for starting this is some anxiety I'm feeling at going away without the kids on Saturday.  I have gone away without them before, but always wonder 'what if something happens to me'.  I'm assured by my 'google' research that this separation anxiety is perfectly normal for a mother.
Do all mothers make their husbands take separate flights so if the worst happens the kids still have one parent?  (John dealt with that surprisingly well)!

I'm not afraid of dying, but the thought of leaving my children mother-less is terrifying (promise I won't always be this morbid, but as the title suggests there is a bit of  catching up to do).   I have no doubt that John would manage and the boys would turn out find without me, but the thought of James not remembering me is heart breaking.

So I'm off to New York City on Saturday for work, and am able to spend some time with my sister, Tiffany.  I was incredibly anxious when I first learned I would be going, but have calmed down quite a bit.  Not completely, as you'll understand when you read my plans for Friday evening.....

John is taking the boys to his parents on Friday for the weekend.  Which means I will be coming home from work to an empty house.  Maybe most people would see this as an opportunity to chill out, have a drink and generally enjoy the peace and quiet.  I, however, will be video taping myself reading a few bed time stories and doing our night time routine.  I haven't told John this yet, but have made my colleague promise that, should anything happen to me, she will tell John that he must look at the video camera.  Sad / morbid / well planned ? You decide!
